Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, diced onion, minced garlic, parsley, basil, salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and chili flakes.
- Using clean hands, gently mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated, being careful not to overwork the mixture to keep the meatballs tender.
- Roll the mixture into evenly sized meatballs for med sized meatballs I used 2 tbsps of the mixture to form each meatball and placed them on a plate or tray. For best results, cover and refrigerate the meatballs for 20–30 minutes before cooking to help them firm up and hold their shape.
- How to Freeze
- To freeze uncooked meatballs, roll them and arrange in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are evenly spaced and not touching each other. Place the tray in the freezer and freeze until the meatballs are firm, about 1–2 hours. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe container or resealable freezer bag, label, and store in the freezer for up to 2 months.
- To defrost, remove the desired amount of meatballs from the freezer and place them in the refrigerator to thaw overnight. Once fully defrosted, cook using your preferred method. For best texture and even cooking, avoid thawing at room temperature.
- For Cooking
- To pan-fry, add a shallow amount of oil to a skillet adding just enough to cover the base and heat the oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in a single layer, leaving space between each one. Cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides and fully cooked through, about 10–12 minutes.
- To bake, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the meatballs on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking tray. Bake for 18–22 minutes, turning once halfway through, until golden and cooked through. Allow the meatballs to rest for a few minutes before serving.
Note
For extra juicy meatballs, avoid packing them too tightly when rolling.
